AbstractThe analytical model for the complex dielectric function which includes both discrete and continuum exciton effect is presented. Lorentzian broadening approximation of the dielectric function of ZnO causes excessive absorption tails which extends for more than 1 eV below the absorption edge. It is shown that the experimental data obtained in the vicinity and below absorption edge can be improved if adjustable broadening modification is used with respect to the conventional Lorentzian broadening.
