Dr. Chu is a Chair Professor and an Associate Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry at The University of Hong Kong (HKU). He is the Vice President of the Asian-Oceanian Federation of Conservative Dentistry (2023-2025). He is a past president of the Asia Academy of Preventive Dentistry, the South East Asia Association for Dental Education, and the Society of Preventive Dentistry of Hong Kong. Dr. Chu received his BDS, PDipDS, MDS, and PhD from HKU. He is a Master of the Academy of General Dentistry (AGD) and received the prestigious AGD Lifelong Learning & Service Recognition Award. Dr. Chu was the Dentist-in-Charge of the HKU Health Service before he became a teacher. He is a registered specialist in Family Dentistry and a dental fellow of the Academy of Medicine in Hong Kong. Through training and examinations, Dr. Chu became a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons (RACDS), a dental fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (RCSEd), and a diplomate of the American Board of General Dentistry. He was elected a fellow of the Faculty of Dental Trainers RCSEd for his commitment to dental education, a fellow of the Academy of Dental Materials for his achievements in scientific research, and a fellow of the International College of Dentists for his dedication to community services. Dr. Chu has published extensively and received numerous competitive research grants. He is a section chief editor of Frontiers in Oral Health and Dentistry Journal. He is an editorial board member of the Journal of Dental Research, JDR Clinical & Translational Research, International Dental Journal, and BMC Oral Health. Dr. Chu teaches undergraduate dental students and supervises postgraduate research students and post-doctoral fellows. He is an RACDS Dental Public Health board member and the person-in-charge of the JC Child Oral Health Project, serving all Hong Kong kindergarten children. He is an FDI World Dental Federation Public Health Committee Member (2021-2024) and a board director of Project Concern Hong Kong, a charity serving people in need.
