Dr Lee, Antoinette Marie 李美瑩
Antoinette Lee’s main research area is Health Psychology. Within this broad area, I am particularly interested in women’s mental health and how cultural and social factors affect mental and physical health. I am fascinated by the intricate and reciprocal relationship between psychology and health, and between physical and mental health. Specifically, I am interested in examining how medical conditions affect psychological well-being, and how psychological factors and processes are implicated in illness and recovery. The additional contributions of cultural factors (such as cultural attitudes, beliefs and practices) and social factors (such as gender) often offer further insights into this complex relationship. My research projects include antenatal and postpartum mental health and their impact on infant and child development; gender roles and psychological well-being among fathers and mothers; eating disorders; behavioural interventions for prevention and recovery from medical illnesses; stress and coping; and development and validation of culturally sensitive psychological instruments for mental health assessment.
