Biography

Before joining CAES in September 2013, Cynthia was an Asssociate Professor at the Language Centre, Hong Kong Baptist University. She has taught a range of undergraduate General English and EAP courses and postgraudate courses, and has supervised PhD students. She has published several book chapters, and articles in international refereed journals including Computer Assisted Language Learning, Multilingua, Journal of Pragmatics, Pragmatics, Teaching in Higher Education, Language, Culture and Curriculum, International Review of Pragmatics book chapters. She has also published two books (Language Output, Communication Strategies and Communicative Tasks in 2005; Web-based Teaching and English Language Teaching co-authored with G. Jor and E. Lai in 2005) and co-edited a book with international scholars (Communication and Language co-edited with A. S. Yeung and E.L. Brown in 2012). Her research interests are: 1. interlanguage pragmatics, 2. L2 acquisition, 3. computer assisted writing, 4. institutional talk, and 5. learning and teaching pragmatics.
