My research aims to develop a better understanding of the dynamic co-evolution of life and the Earth system through multifaceted studies generally focused on the sedimentary rock archive. My field-based research endeavors are supplemented with diverse analytical tools that include detrital sediment geochronology and geochemistry (e.g., detrital zircon analyses, trace elements, Nd, Li, and Sr isotopes), carbonate isotope geochemistry (e.g., C, O, S, Sr, and Nd), paleontology and biostratigraphy. I am particularly interested in understanding how lithospheric processes influence climate, ocean–atmosphere chemistry, and biospheric evolution. This requires knowledge of both tectonic and geochemical processes at various spatial and temporal scales. My active research projects focus on (1) investigating tectonic and environmental influences on animal evolution and mass extinctions; (2) refining the stratigraphic architecture and Precambrian to recent tectonic history of the Indian subcontinent; (3) constraining the tectonic and sedimentary evolution of western Argentina; (4) Precambrian Earth system evolution with an emphasis on the Archean–Proterozoic and Neoproterozoic¬–Paleozoic transitions; and (5) broadly exploring tectonic influences on long-term carbon cycling and seawater chemistry. Current field sites include India, Argentina, China, South Korea, Canada, the western US, and Myanmar.
