Dr. Jojo Kwok is a registered nurse and certified yoga instructor in Hong Kong, and currently an Assistant Professor at School of Nursing, The University of Hong Kong. Her research interests focus on chronic illness care, gerontology, mental health as well as behavioral medicine. She advocates psychologically informed physical therapy to improve health outcomes. She has initiated the first mindfulness yoga clinical trial in Hong Kong, which concluded that mindfulness yoga is an effective, safe and superior mind-body treatment option for stress and motor symptoms management in patients with Parkinson’s disease. Her research findings have been published in international, peer-reviewed journals, such as JAMA Neurology, and featured as impactful news in both local and international mass media, including Reuters Health, Neurology Today and Radio Television Hong Kong.
Jojo has accumulated an admirable list of academic honors, international achievements and local community services. She has received an Early Career Award and Meritorious Scientific Abstract Award offered by the International Society of Behavioral Medicine in 2018, and an Early Career Researcher Award (runner-up) offered by the international peer-reviewed journal Complementary Therapies in Medicine in 2016. She has been invited to deliver a plenary speech, titled “Yoga as Lifestyle Medicine: Prescription of Healthy Living”, at the 23rd International Conference on Frontiers in Yoga Research and its Applications (INCOFYRA) in Bengaluru, India in 2020. She has been a committee member of the Hong Kong Parkinson’s Disease Foundation (HKPDF) Education and Training Committee since 2016 to facilitate the knowledge transfer of evidence-based care among the local Parkinson’s community.
