Short Biography:

Dr Patrick Leung Siu-chung (梁兆琮) joined the Department of Emergency Medicine (formerly Emergency Medicine Unit) as Clinical Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine Practice in March 2020. He graduated from HKUMed in 2008 and received his dual Fellowships of Hong Kong College of Emergency Medicine and Royal College of Emergency Medicine (Ad Eundem) in 2016. He received post-fellowship training in Clinical Toxicology in Accident and Emergency Department, Queen Mary Hospital, as well as Hong Kong Poison Information Centre, United Christian Hospital. He obtained his postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Toxicology (HKPIC & HKCEM) in 2017. He was awarded the title of “Distinguished Young Fellow” by the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine in 2017. Prior to joining HKUMed, he was an Associate Consultant of the Accident and Emergency Department, Queen Mary Hospital with active participation in teaching medical students as Honorary Clinical Assistant Professor of HKUMed. Dr Leung’s primary research interests are neutropenic sepsis and Clinical Toxicology. He was conferred to be the Fellow in Clinical Toxicology by the Hong Kong College of Emergency Medicine in 2022.

Biography

Dr. Leung is an academic emergency physician with dual practices in public and private healthcare sectors. He practices in the capacity of Honorary Associate Consultant in a 24-hour metropolitan Emergency Department of Queen Mary Hospital, Hong Kong. With an annual attendance approximating 130,000, it is a regional acute hospital, tertiary referral centre, trauma centre, as well as the teaching hospital for the Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine of The University of Hong Kong. He also practices as Specialist of Emergency Medicine in the 24-hour Outpatient and Emergency Department of Gleneagles Hospital Hong Kong.

He graduated from The University of Hong Kong with MB.,BS. in 2008 and finished his post-internship specialty training in emergency medicine in 2016. After obtaining the specialist status in emergency medicine, he was awarded the title of Distinguished Young Fellow 2017 by the Hong Kong Academy Medicine with nomination by the Hong Kong College of Emergency Medicine.

He is part of the Editorial Board of the Hong Kong Journal of Emergency Medicine (SAGE Publications Ltd) as an editor and reviewer. It is a peer-reviewed open access journal which focuses on all aspects of clinical practice and emergency research in the hospital and pre-hospital setting.

Educational services are provided to rotating EM trainees, medical students, and the general public as collaborative effort among the Emergency Medicine Unit of The University of Hong Kong, the Hong Kong College of Emergency Medicine, and the two Accident and Emergency Departments of the Queen Mary Hospital as well as Gleneagles Hospital Hong Kong.

His work focuses on neutropenic sepsis and Clinical Toxicology. He was conferred to be the Fellow in Clinical Toxicology by the Hong Kong College of Emergency Medicine in 2022.
