Dr Ni joined the School of Public Health at HKU in 2021. She has a Bachelor's degree in Public Health and a Master's degree in Epidemiology and Medical Statistics. She graduated with a PhD in Global Health from University College London (UCL) in 2018 and subsequently worked as a Post-doctoral Fellow at UCL and the University of Warwick (UK).
Her research is interdisciplinary, across the areas of psychology, child development, epidemiology, and public health. Her primary research interests include the life course consequences of preterm birth, adverse and positive childhood experiences, and other prevailing determinants of mental health.
She has been actively working on several large-scale local and international research projects since 2018:
- follow-up surveys of the FAMILY Cohort, a large population-based cohort study in Hong Kong,
- RECAP Preterm, funded by the European Union’s Horizon 2020,
- EPICure, funded by the UK Medical Research Council, and
- The Bavarian Longitudinal Study (BLS), funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Science.
Recently, she was awarded the Faculty Post-Doctoral Prize (2022) for the best Warwick-affiliated research output from an Early Career Researcher. During her PhD, she received a travel grant from the Universities' China Committee in London and the Malaysia Scholarship Award.
