Dr Gao, Junling 高峻岭
Dr. Junling Gao, is a senior researcher in the interdisciplinary field of Buddhist practices and neuroscience, a new-frontier that bridges the gap between the arts and sciences. With a Ph.D. in Neurology and a Master's in Buddhism Studies, Dr. Gao's work has garnered recognition both academically and in the public media. One of his neuroscientific papers published in Scientific Reports of Nature on religious chanting was featured in the HKU VP(R)'s Pick on the HKU main webpage, while his research on mindfulness has been reported by Newsweek, among other prominent outlets. Furthermore, he has successfully helped the Centre of Buddhist Studies to secure a research fund from the National Natural Science Foundation of China to study neurophysiological correlates of religious chanting. With a leading position in the lab of Buddhism Practice and Counselling Science at the Centre of Buddhist Studies, Dr. Gao has published numerous influential papers that support the integration of Buddhist practices into modern society, and, at the same time, promoting the integration of the best of both Eastern and Western cultures. Dr. Gao's ultimate aim is to use neuroscientific finding to support Buddhist teaching based counselling practice and develop feasible techniques to enhance emotional and spiritual well-being in an ever more stressful modern world. He is also actively collaborating with other faculties within HKU and other universities, contributing to groundbreaking research and grant applications.
