Hai-Lei Li graduated from Wuhan University with Bachelor of Medicine and Master of Clinical Medicine in 2009. Then he pursued his specialty interest in vascular surgery at Peking University. He completed vascular surgical training and graduated from Peking University with MD and PhD of Surgery in 2013. During his PhD program, Professor Li studied at Stanford University as a visiting scholar from 2012 to 2013 with the scholarship of China Scholarship Council, Ministry of Education. He got the advanced open and endovascular training for peripheral arterial and aortic disease under the supervision of Professor Stephen Cheng at Queen Mary Hospital in 2014. Prior to joining The University of Hong Kong, he was an Associated Consultant working at Department of Surgery, The University of Hong Kong - Shenzhen Hospital.

Professor Li is enthusiastic and dedicated in teaching, he was awarded the outstanding mentor of The University of Hong Kong - Shenzhen Hospital in 2019. He is Committee Member of Guangdong Society for Vascular Surgery and Guangdong Vascular Surgeon Association. He is also Vascular Surgery Committee Member of Chinese Research Hospital Association, and Secretary Geneal for Shenzhen Branch of Asia-Pacific Vascular Academic Alliance. Dr. Li was elected to be the Deputy Chief of Youth Committee of Shenzhen Society for Vascular Surgery in 2023, and Deputy Chief of Shenzhen Vascular Surgeon Association in 2024.

Professor Li’s research interest focuses mainly on venous disease, intimal hyperplasia after vascular intervention and aortic remodeling following endovascular repair. He has received two research grants from Guangdong Medical Science and Technology Research Fund. Professor Li has authored more than 40 peer-reviewed articles and 4 book chapters in vascular surgery. He has also translated 5 book chapters from English to Chinese. Professor Li was nominated into the Medical Elite Talent Program by Shenzhen Health Commission in 2022. He was awarded the Young Practitioner Scholarship by American Interventional Academy in 2018, Scholarship of Dialysis Access Synergy in 2019, Wang Zhong-Gao Prize in 2019 and International Scholarship by Society for Vascular Surgery in 2024.
