Abstract | Our study is among the first attempts to suggest that the combination of professional CEO, independent directors and uniqueness of family is a dynamic capability and specific firm resource for achieving innovation and continuity in the family controlled firm. Drawing from resource based view and dynamic capability literature, we propose that a professional CEO directly impacts innovation and firm performance, and that this impact is positively moderated by independent directors on the board. The higher the number of independents, the more positive is the effect. Our testable propositions form a baseline for future research. Implications for theory and practice are discussed. |
