AbstractThe finite strip and layer methods, which require smaller amount of computer storage than the finite element method, are particularly suitable for application in micro-computers. This paper reports the development in this area with emphasis on the geotechnical field. A general routine for solving problems of 'coupled' stiffness matrix and application to foundation and plates on elastic foundation problems will be presented.
