AbstractThe shear strength of slip soils is important for the stability analysis of landslides. Most of the previous research is mainly focused on the strength characteristics of finer particles; however, little attention is paid to the strength behavior of slip soils containing coarse particles. This paper presents a series of shear tests on slip soils sampled from the adit of Xietan landslide in the Three Gorges Reservoir areas. The shear tests include ring shear, multi-reversal direct shear (both small and large), triaxial shear (CD/CU), with the proportions of coarse particles ranges from 0% to 40%. Results indicate that both the gravel proportions and its size have an effect on the shear strength behavior. The shear strength parameters of the slip soils of Xietan landslide are presented for analyzing the stability of landslide. Copyright ASCE 2006.
