AbstractBased on the weight distribution of MDS codes, the probabilities of decoding error and decoding failure for incomplete decoder were obtained. Considering the effect of decoding error and failure on BER, the accurate BER formula was deduced from the probabilities. The BERs of MDS codes with different length were calculated in Additional White Gaussion Noise (AWGN) channel via the formula. The simulation results show that the BER got from the proposed formula is more precise than the conventional BER upper bound.
