AbstractA new model is presented for studying the reliability of communication networks in which link failures are statistically dependent. The approach tries to identify and model explicitly the events that cause communication link failure. No conditional probabilities are needed, which avoids two major difficulties. For reliability computations, a known and very efficient algorithm can be used with just a monitor modification and no significant increase in computational complexity.
