AbstractWith the emphasis on higher utilization of power system and the development of interconnection of power grids, the study on mid-term frequency dynamics of large-scale interconnected power systems under cascaded failures becomes a significant and urgent topic. Based on dynamic load flow (DLF), a method for mid-term frequency dynamics is here investigated and by introduced center of inertia (COI) into simulation model. On the assumption of uniform frequency in each sub-system, the area center of inertia (COI) dynamics, speed governor and rotor dynamics, Voltage regulator model, and static load models considering voltage- and frequency-dependant characteristics are taken into account. This paper outlines the simulation algorithm and the specialized applications to provide a viable simulation platform for the subsequent stability analysis and control coordination of mid-term frequency dynamics of interconnected power systems under cascaded faults.
