The International Conference on Computer Supported Collaborative Learning(CSCL 2011) was held this year on July 4-8 in Hong Kong. The conference theme was 'Connecting Computer-supported Collaborative Learning to Policy and Practice'.The aim was to examine whether and how CSCL research can bring deep changes to formal and informal educational practices at all levels, and contribute to education improvement at a system level by informing education policy.World renown scientists in the areas of learning, learning, educational technology and collaborative learning gathered together at this conference, making it a highlight global event on the sciences of learning. In addition to this conference in Hong Kong, post-conference events connected to the conference theme were also held in Guangzhou, Shanghai and Beijing, attracting the participation of many scholars from Mainland China. As a prelude to the CSCL conference, a small Global Forum on Learning was also held in Hong Kong. Among the 20 participants in this Global Forum, about half were researchers working at the cutting edge in the sciences of learning, while the other half were leaders of education policy in various international organizations. They engaged in a spectacular dialogue on the micro and macro aspects of education research. We believes that research on the sciences of learning will become basic research in the field of education.
