AbstractThe analytical properties of the curvilinear perfect matched layer (PML) are studied. By using the standard form of stretching variables, the PML on concave surfaces retain the causal properties of the Maxwell's equations (ME). However, this is not true for convex surface PML which has constitutive tensors with singularities on the upper half plane. For brevity, the analysis is presented on the constitutive tensors of the anisotropic PML formulation, but a similar analysis can be done by directly using the complex-space PML and its Green's functions.
