| Abstract | Surinamese linguistic systems have been interacting, converging and diverging. Due to multilingualism and mobility of their speakers “hardly any inhabitant is monolingual, yet not everyone is multilingual in the same languages, nor to the same extent” (Carlin & Arends 2002). Preliminary data on Sarnámi shows that multilingualism and mobility play a role in reshaping individual Surinamese linguistic systems and in recasting the linguistic ecology of (the) Surinam(ese diaspora) |
