Abstract | Building Code as the Formwork of Construction In Hong Kong why buildings are built like that can be explored through many various disciplines. However, the direct non-physical mold to shape buildings is undoubtedly the building code. The high density environment in Hong Kong has posed the necessity for very strict building control so as to meet basic standards of health and safety for the community. But the demand for space by the individuals for carrying out functions of working and habitation has always been a basic need. Hence the buildings are constructed with maximization of developable space up to the limit of the building code. This presentation will discuss this non-physical formwork of building code applied in the high density context of Hong Kong with reference to current examples and historical evidence. |
