Abstract | Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL) and Mobile Assisted Language Learning (MALL) have been receiving growing attention in the field of English Language Education in the recent decade. Although previous research has shown that using computer/mobile technology in the classroom may be fraught with problems (Hsu, 2013), the benefits it brings to language teaching and learning may outweigh the drawbacks (Thomas, Reinders, & Warschauer, 2013). Also, It is suggested that online tools may enhance learners’ language learning experiences (Chun, Kern & Smith, 2016). By understanding how some of these tools can be applied in English classrooms, teachers can become more flexible in strategizing their teaching. Workshop Purpose: The aim of this workshop is to promote CALL and MALL through demonstrating the use of some online tools and providing participants with hands-on experience. It will also discuss different strategies for incorporating these online tools into English classrooms. Some online tools that will be demonstrated and discussed include Peardeck, Polleverywhere, Mentimetre and Kahoot. Workshop Tasks: There are three main parts in the workshop. The presenters will demonstrate the use of some online tools; participants will then explore possibilities in applying those tools in their
teaching. Finally, they will have a chance to share their thoughts and own experience about using online tools in their classroom. Bring a mobile device with you. This workshop will be a highly interactive and communicative one. |
