AbstractResults of a mainly quantitative contents analysis that deals with " punitiv-ity" in the press are presented. For this I used a sample of articles about the issue of juvenile delinquency from Bild and Süddeutsche Zeitung. At first I define the concept of punitivity and give some possible indicators for a broader concept of it. The empirical result shows that primarily a tough line of action was claimed, especially in the tabloid, but explicit demands for a tougher punishment could only be found in comments. An implicit punitivity was found in both papers, but particularly clear in Bild. It was written more about offenders than victims, and negative coloured types were named more frequently and were predominant in Bild. A résumé reflects the (scientific) importance of the study.
