Abstract

This proposed demonstration focuses on the sharing of experience, ideas and personal tips on using available information technology in the teaching and out-of-classroom learning of humanities subjects. This session will cover, in ascending levels of difficulty, the use of several software applications for the following pedagogical and learning purposes: productivity, information searching and referencing (e.g. Microsoft Office 365 Word’s Researcher, Smart Lookup, Citations & Bibliography with style extenders; PowerPoint’s QuickStarter and Design Ideas), mind-mapping and note-taking (e.g. GoConqr), 'AssessEngagement' (e.g. Kahoot!, Slido, Menimeter, Google Forms with plugins and QR codes), learning management and sharing (e.g. Google Classroom with Google Drive) and more. The session will share fun and creative ideas for in-class and out-of-classroom activities, assignments and projects that incorporate the aforementioned software applications, social media and video sharing platforms (e.g. Facebook, Twitter and YouTube) and mobile phone games (e.g. Spotlight: Room Escape). In addition, the key presenter will also share some yet-to-be-realised innovative ideas that could unlock student’s learning potentials in approaching language subjects (e.g. 360 VR in language teaching and learning of writing, reading and grammar).
