Abstract | This lecture examined the work of Dalit activist and thinker B.R. Ambedkar. It argues that a proper understanding of Ambedkar’s repudiation of caste must come from a more rigorous understanding of the particularity of Ambedkar’s academic training, which included not only sociology and law, but philological and orientalist training as well. Consequently, the speaker argues for “sociophilia” and contagion as the key to understanding Ambedkar’s annihilation of caste. |
