Abstract

Occupant behaviors have a significant impact on building energy performance and behavior models have been widely adopted in building simulation. Commonly, it will take weeks even years to collect data from field tests and achieve behavioral patterns as model inputs. However, the valid time of behavioral patterns drawn from empirical studies remains unclear. This study aims to investigate the seasonal and cross-year effects of field-measured behavioral patterns. In-situ monitoring activities were carried out with six university students in Hong Kong from 2019 to 2021. Results showed that the seasonal and cross-year effects existed in the descriptive statistical parameters to be used in the deterministic behavior model, and appeared limitedly in the extracted behavior model parameters to be used in the stochastic behavior model.
