Abstract

Aim: This research investigates procedural memory in developmental stuttering (DS) compared to typically developing (TD) children. 

Methodology: Ten DS and 26 TD children in Hong Kong participated in this study, undergoing language skill, speech fluency, and memory assessments, including the serial reaction time (SRT) task and non-verbal declarative memory task. 

Results: DS children were slower in the SRT but showed no significant differences in procedural memory. Both groups performed similarly in declarative memory tasks.

Conclusions: Preliminary findings suggest DS children are slower in SRT tasks, but atypical procedural memory is not confirmed. Further examination with a larger sample is needed.
