Conference Paper: Sensitivity and specificity of two diagnostic tasks in Cantonese speakers with childhood apraxia of speech

TitleSensitivity and specificity of two diagnostic tasks in Cantonese speakers with childhood apraxia of speech
Authors
Issue Date5-Dec-2024
Abstract

Maximum performance tasks (MPT) and the syllable repetition task (SRT) are reported to be useful measures for diagnosing childhood apraxia of speech (CAS) in English/Dutch children. However, their diagnostic accuracy for Cantonese speakers with CAS is uncertain. In our study, MPT was highly sensitive (100%) but not specific (37.64%), while the transcoding score of the SRT was neither sensitive (33.33%) nor specific (55.29%) for diagnosing CAS in Cantonese speakers. Neither MPT nor SRT is recommended as the sole diagnostic criterion for Cantonese children suspected of CAS. However, some MPT measures may provide useful information to aid in the diagnosis of CAS in Cantonese speakers.
