TitleA 20-item caregiver speech-language screening for Cantonese preschool children: Preliminary validity and reliability

Issue Date5-Dec-2024
Abstract

This study validated the Cantonese caregiver speech-language screening for preschool children (CCSLS-P). The 20 items on the CCSLS-P were rated by 114 caregivers who were recruited openly. The language section score (LSS) of this questionnaire showed preliminary validity, effectively differentiating children with versus without language disorders, and reliability. However, the speech section score (SSS) did not differentiate speech sound disorders, possibly due to caregivers’ lack of awareness of Cantonese phonology. Future research with a larger sample size is needed. The CCSLS-P has the potential to screen language abilities in preschoolers and quantify functional impacts of language disorders in this population.
