AbstractThis study designed a Knowledge-Building Environment (KBE) to promote undergraduates' STEM understanding. 171 undergraduates worked in different groups in terms of their interests in STEM topics and collaboratively produced the artifacts. The quantitative findings suggest that the designed knowledge-building environment promoted students' STEM understanding successfully. The quantitative findings suggested that the designed KBE promoted students' STEM understanding successfully. Specifically, knowledge-building activities and artifacts fabricating facilitated their STEM understanding. The qualitative analysis illustrated the way a KBE helps students implement STEM projects. Implications of developing knowledge building approach for STEM learning are discussed.
