AbstractPassivity is a crucial property that VLSI macromod-els, such as interconnects, vias and packages, should preserve in order to guarantee stable global simulation and signal integrity. In this paper, we focus on the fast passivity checking for general descriptor systems derived from macromodels. We proposed two sweeping methods for descriptor systems, which are also applicable to regular systems as special cases. Compared with existing methods, the proposed ones are not only computationally more efficient, but also capable of locating the non-passive frequency regions if they exist. Numerical examples then verify the efficiency and effectiveness of the proposed methods. © 2008 IEEE.
