AbstractA method has been developed to determine Ca(about 400 mg/g in corals) and Sr(about 8 mg/g) in the same aliquots by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry. Sc and Y were used as internal standards to measure Ca and Sr, respectively. This method yielded good reproducibility by using a tuned POEMS instrument. The relative standard deviation was about 0.3% for Sr and about 1 % for Ca. Accuracy was assessed by thermal ionization mass spectrometry in 90 coral samples. These results were in good agreement except 7 samples.
