AbstractThe main features of fiber optical parametric amplifiers (OPA), including gain, gain bandwidth, noise figure and idler generation are discussed. In the most common types of fiber OPAs, wavelength conversion is accompanied by spectral inversion. Tunability over tens of nanometers has been demonstrated with a variety of cavity designs. Average output powers of tens of milliwatts have been obtained.
