Objectives
1) To understand the evolution and interspecies transmission of betacoronaviruses (βCoVs) by identifying and characterizing the structural and functional features of their Spike protein variants identified in our bat surveillance program in mainland China and Hong Kong. 2) To identify and characterize the receptor-recognition of representative βCoVs that are of clinical importance to human or animals, such as human CoV-HKU1 and CoV-HKU9, by cocrystallization and protein-binding assays.
