Dr Hu has been working in the research area of neural engineering and clinical electrophysiology for more than 30 years. He has conducted more than 30 research projects with granted from Hong Kong RGC, S.K. Yee Medical Foundation, NSFC etc. He published 10 book chapters, and more than 300 journal paper with SCI citation (about 10 papers per year).

He is a senior member of IEEE and Chinese BME society; Council Board member of International Association of Neurorestoratology(IANR); Vice Chairmen of Chinese Committee of IANR; Vice president of basic science sub-committee, Spine and spinal cord committee of Chinese Rehabilitation Medicine Society, Vice president of Chinese Committee of Biomedical Sensor Technology, Chinese BME society, Council committee member in Chinese Sub-society of Medical Neural Engineering, Chinese BME society. Dr. Hu was awarded several international prizes for his academic contributions, including Macnab/Larocca Research Fellowship twice from the International Society for the Study of the Lumbar Spine (ISSLS); Universitas 21 Fellowship; Oldendorf Award from American Society of Neuroimaging; and Sino-UK Fellowship.

Biography

Dr Yong Hu received his BSc and MSc degrees in the Biomedical Engineering from Tianjin University, Tianjin, China in 1985 and 1988, respectively, his PhD degree from The University of Hong Kong in 1999. He is currently an Associate professor, Principle Investigator, Director of Lab of Neural Engineering and Clinical Electrophysiology, in the Department of Orthopaedics & Traumatology, The University of Hong Kong. He is also an adjunction ‘Xiehe Chair Professor’ of Institute of Biomedical Engineering, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences & Peking Union Medical College. His main research area is clinical electrophysiology, neural engineering, and biomedical signal processing, hardware implementation for signal processing.

Dr. Hu was awarded several prizes for his academic contributions. His paper was awarded Oldendorf Award for the best manuscript in the 34th Annual Meeting of the American Society of Neuroimaging 2011, Cum Laude Best Poster Award in SPIE Medical Imaging conference 2011 and the best paper for 2008 in Anaesth Intensive Care. He was awarded U21 fellowship in 2013, HKU overseas fellowship in 2012 respectively. In 2006 and 2007, he was awarded Macnab/Larocca Research Fellowship twice from the International Society for the Study of the Lumbar Spine (ISSLS) in his study on Using topography of surface EMG for low back pain assessment. His work on time-frequency analysis of SEP has been selected into the The Yearbook of Medical Informatics 2003.

He is a senior member of IEEE and Chinese BME society; Council Board member of International Association of Neurorestoratology(IANR); Vice Chairmen of Chinese Committee of IANR; Vice president of basic science sub-committee, Spine and spinal cord committee of Chinese Rehabilitation Medicine Society, Vice president of Chinese Committee of Biomedical Sensor Technology, Chinese BME society, Council committee member in Chinese Sub-society of Medical Neural Engineering, Chinese BME society. He was invited to be conference chairs, session chairs in several international conferences and keynote speaker in more than 50 international or national conferences in the past 5 years. As a recognized authority in biomedical engineering and clinical electrophysiology, he has been invited to be visiting professors to many institutions.
