Biography

Professor Tan Tan is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Real Estate and Construction, Faculty of Architecture, the University of Hong Kong (HKU). Previously, he held a postdoctoral position at the Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) in the Netherlands and the National Centre of Competence in Research (NCCR) Digital Fabrication in Switzerland. He earned his PhD in Architecture and MSc in Project and Enterprise Management from University College London (UCL) and his BArch in Architecture from Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST).

His research draws into the intersection of architecture, technology and business to bridge the connection between design and construction, especially for studying modern solutions to sustainability challenges facing the future built environments of retrofit, extension, and redevelopment. His primary fields of research interest include:

  • Modern Methods of Design for Industrialized Construction (e.g. DfMA, modular design, computational design)
  • Digital Collaboration in Digital Fabrication (e.g. BIM, human-robot collaboration, interactive XR)

He is willing to accept Research Assistants and MPhil/PhD students who share his research interests and possess self-driven motivation. Students with diverse backgrounds (e.g., architecture, civil engineering, management, computer science, mathematics, etc.) are all welcome to apply.
