AbstractLearning Tasks Are The Most Important Vehicle In The Mathematics Classroom. Findings Of International Studies Suggest That How The Teacher Used The Tasks So That The Cognitive Demand Of The Learning Tasks Could Be Sustained Is Very Important. The Traditional Learning Tasks In Hong Kong Classrooms Were Mostly Limited By The Competitive Examination Orientation System. A Breakthrough Needs Innovative Practice. A Project On Rich Tasks And Collaborative Learning Has Been Organized At The University Of Hong Kong For Two Years, Working With 12 Schools And 27 Teachers. Data Collection Included Video Of The Lessons, Pre- Post- lesson Teacher Interviews And Post-lesson Student Interviews. Very Good Feedback Was Received From The Teachers And Students. In The Talk, I Will Share The Lessons Learned In The Study. lesson 1: What Have Learned About Learning Tasks In Mathematics Classrooms From International Studies? Timss And Learner’s Perspective Study (lps). lesson 2: Why Do We Need Change For The Case Of Hong Kong? A Contrast Of Paradigm Over Time. lesson 3: How To Make Change Happen? Students’ Activity Experience In The Rich Task Project.
