AbstractVBM-like analysis and tractography based analysis were performed to investigate FA asymmetry in white matter and its association with reading scores among three groups of normal healthy Chinese subjects(7.4yrs +/-0.3, n=24, 10.3yrs +/-0.5, n=27, 22.8yrs +/-2.3, n=24). Among all three groups, arcuate fasciculus and inferior fronto-occipital(IFO) fasciculus were consistently found to demonstrate left-ward asymmetry by VBM-like study, confirmed on tractography. We found early onset of asymmetry, before school age, which remained stable until young adulthood. Also, level of lateralization was found to be a highly significant predictor of Chinese reading scores after adjusting for the effect of age.
