Professor Ho, Daniel Chi Wing 何志榮
Dr. HO is a Registered Professional Building Surveyor and Fellow Member of The Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors (HKIS), The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), and The Hong Kong Institute of Facility Management (HKIFM). He is an Authorized Person registered under the Buildings Ordinance (Cap. 123) and was President of the Hong Kong Institute of Facility Management (HKIFM) from 2002-2003.
Dr. HO’s research interests are the assessment of building quality and performance and facility management. Dr. HO initiated the Building Health & Hygiene Index (BHHI) research during the outbreak of SARS in March 2003, which has now been extended further to cover building safety and conditions. The practical aspects of the assessment schemes will have a bearing on urban renewal and maintenance management of buildings. Dr. HO’s work has attracted media attention, and he has taken part in a number of press conferences, TV documentaries, and road shows, as well as newspaper special features over the past few years.
Dr. HO has co-authored two books and has contributed to chapters of several other books. He is currently the P.I. of a number of research projects with grants from the RGC and external bodies. Dr. HO has published papers in the areas of building quality and performance assessment, sustainable development and heritage, facility management benchmarking, development control, and the durability of building materials.
Dr. HO has served on various government committees, councils, and boards of professional institutions, including the Authorized Persons’ and Registered Structural Engineers’ Disciplinary Board Panel, and the Appeal Tribunal Panel, under the Buildings Ordinance (Cap. 123), etc. Dr. HO was the Head of the Department of Real Estate & Construction for the period 1 January 2006 to 28 February 2009.
